The title sequence imagines a hidden life for Diane Arbus, the photographer. The Two V's builds a correspondence out of the love between Woolf and Sackville-West, the Lincoln section lets a president reflect on present-day decline, and SIX gives each of Henry VIII's wives her own say. Wood's drawings and paintings, darkly funny in the publisher's description, run through the book.
It suits readers of persona poetry and of writing about artists and historical figures, and readers who want poems and pictures from the same hand. Every figure here comes from history. Every voice comes from Wood.
