Spotting a teacher outside school can feel like spotting a rare animal in the wild. Brad Davidson turns that moment into a field guide for young children.
Readical Key Points
- A humorous picture book for ages 4 to 6 (preschool to grade 1)
- Illustrated by Rachel Más Davidson
- Starred review from School Library Journal; also reviewed by Kirkus Reviews and Booklist
- Hardcover, 40 pages, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (2026)
Written in the style of a field guide, the book prepares children for the surprise of finding their teacher at the dentist, cheering at a soccer game or taking a pet to the vet. It treats each encounter as a sighting and offers a few simple, funny ways to respond, whether a child feels excited, awkward or plain confused. Rachel Más Davidson's detailed illustrations fill every scene.
Parents, caregivers and teachers can read it aloud before a new school year, or right after a child comes home with a sighting of their own. The authors are a husband-and-wife team, an educator and an illustrator who has taught art. The rarest creature in the whole guide is only a person running errands.
