Starting preschool means new rooms, new faces and a whole new routine. Kathryn Wanless, a former preschool teacher, walks young listeners through the day in rhythmic, repeating text.
Readical Key Points
- A picture book in rhythmic, repeating text for ages 3 to 6 (preschool to grade 1)
- Written and illustrated by Kathryn Wanless, the first book she has both written and illustrated
- Starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal and Publishers Weekly
- Hardcover, 40 pages, Red Comet Press, 2026
Publishers Weekly describes three sections, each with a different child asking a caregiver the question in the title. The publisher says the rhythmic text and repeated phrases mirror the predictable schedule of a school day, and that the book's message is that a day of friends and fun passes quickly before the return to family. The publisher describes crayon illustrations, and Publishers Weekly notes that they show students and teachers of varied abilities and skin tones.
Preschool teachers, parents and caregivers can read it with a child in the weeks before a first day. According to the publisher, Wanless made the book she had wanted for her own students. Each child asks, and a caregiver lays out the day.
